The CNAS has always been classified as a separate dedicated product (system) with numerous channels (up to 1024). This is usually a high cost solution with massive wiring complications especially when major number changes are being undertaken in a fast growing telecom service area.

It is now feasible to perform this function by a low cost means by using Voice Messaging Systems. In this method of automated provision of the new Changed Number to any caller, only a few channels are adequate depending on the expected calling volumes. The Voice-Messaging Cards mounted on a PC-based Computer System having the complete database of the old and corresponding new numbers is adequate to perform the CNAS function.

The new method involves the allocation of specific '1' level service (eg.195) for this facility. All callers who call the old number are given the standard pre-recorded message of the telephone exchange instructing them to call '195' for obtaining new number.

When the caller dials 195, he is connected to the Voice Messaging System.

This system welcomes the caller to the CNAS and requests him to dial the OLD NUMBER.

When the caller dials the old number, the system receives the digits, searches through the available database of numbers and announces the corresponding new number to the caller.

The channel is then disconnected and available to other callers to receive information on their number of interest.

In this manner, the whole city which may have thousands of changed numbers is covered by a single system with only a few channels (say 16 lines). On average, a call search and announcement takes about 30-45 seconds, thus enabling about 80-100 calls/hour/channel.

The database itself can be changed as and when required.

The system can generate suitable statistical information also.

ADS VOICEX VOICE MESSAGING CNAS APPLICATION

The VOICEX CNAS application involves 2 channel add-on Voice Cards (Phonetix 2X) along with 4 channels PTC-2000 Pulse-to-tone converter cards mounted in a single PC system to support up to 8 channels (i.e., 4 Phonetix 2X cards and 2 PTC 2000 cards).

For higher capacity, additional PC Systems (each with up to 8 channels) can be provided.

The system comes with the relevant system software and application software and can even run on the 48V DC source in exchanges (if required). They can be directly connected to the incoming '1' level service lines (junctions).

The Changed Number database is loaded on the same PC Systems(s).

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

This CNAS is an extremely elegant application of the newly developing voice integration technology (ADPCM Coding). The flexibility of the CNAS is very well suited to the Indian Telephone Exchange environment where Installation, Training and Maintenance pose problems in the implementation / utilisation of equipments besides usually long period of delays. The additional flexibility in terms of portability, modularity and interchangeability are added advantages. A further benefit is that the system can also be used for other applications requiring announcements since the re-programmability is easy and convenient and can be performed by any person.

The CNAS performs all the basic objective of the CNAS application and makes sure that neither the master software of the telephone exchanges have to be modified NOR installing massive equipments with their related problems. This CNAS being PC based and universal voice messaging card based can always be used for other applications or easily shifted to other locations.

In view of the other benefits cited above and in the productive description, as well as the economical direct and indirect costs, we believes the ADS-CNAS is the optimal solution for this objective.
